Team-based learning (TBL) is a social learning opportunity that exposes students to different perspectives while keeping them accountable as a cohort.

TBL can be effectively paired with peer assessment on Kritik to engage students in higher-order learning. In this case study, we will take a deep dive into 3 instructors’ assignments who were able to produce better learning outcomes when they combined their TBL activities with Kritik.

  • Prof. Alex Gainer from the University of Alberta creates a sense of community and quick feedback turnaround in his classes with 1600+ students.
  • Prof. Amy Sprenkle from Salem State University builds her students' presentation skills and sees improvement in the quality of student submissions.
  • Prof. Robert Smart from Carleton University sees increased accountability within groups and better reflection on student's work after learning from their peers.
