How can instructors support deeper learning while managing grading demands?
In this interactive session at Dalhousie University, faculty members Dan Shaw from the Rowe School of Business and Michel Ladouceur from the School of Health and Human Performance shared how they use peer assessment to shift students from passive recipients of grades to active participants in learning. By evaluating each other’s work using clear criteria, students develop stronger critical thinking skills, produce higher-quality submissions, and engage more meaningfully with course material.
They discussed how to:
- Improve the quality and usefulness of feedback students receive
- Foster student-centred learning and deeper engagement
- Reduce grading workload through structured peer evaluation
- Implement peer assessment effectively in your own courses
